Wedding Tip of the Week

3/28/11:
Things to consider when choosing your bridesmaids and groomsmen: Resist the urge to ask them immediately, consider putting some thought and planning into your selection. The best attendant is a supportive friend who has the time and money to help you plan your big day. Additionally, consider whether or not the friends you want to include know each other and get along, you do not need the added stress of attendants conflicts on your wedding day. Be sure to select family members and friends with whom you want to share your special time, and not those you feel obligated to ask. And remember, there are plenty of jobs to go around, so you don?t need to have everyone you know stand with you.

3/14/11:
Do you have family pride? If so, consider displaying your parents' and grandparents' wedding photos on the entry table or the cake table, creating a sense of history at your wedding and honoring them at the same time. You could hang the photos by wooden clothes pins, with small magnets on magnetic rope, or simply place them in open mason jars - the possibilities are endless!

3/7/11:
I recommend you also have someone videotape your wedding, photography only takes you so far. Videos let you hear the voice tremble as you say your vows, really listen to the reading you chose specially, catch all the jokes in the best man's toast and watch your friends tear it up on the dance floor. A wallet friendly option is to hire a photographer who has the capabilities and equipment you may save money by purchasing a combined package including both still photography and videography.

2/28/11:
Last week I talked about finding your style, well if you are decided that 'natural' was an element that you would like to use in your Colorado wedding, try incorporating natural elements into your wedding! For example, consider using river rocks as paperweights. Place them on guest chairs to hold down ceremony programs during an outdoor wedding. You could even name the tables after 14ers your have hiked or pair your reception food with some good ole Colorado beers. Also consider using wildflowers, pinecones, and Aspens in your decor. Additionally, consider having your guests sign a coffee table book filled with stunning Colorado photography or use a beautiful landscape photograph on your save-the-dates, invitations, or programs.

2/21/11:
The first step in planning your wedding is finding your style. Sit down with your fiancee and pick two words that you would your guests to use to describe your wedding! Try looking at your house, wardrobe, art, car, etc. for words that describe you are individuals and a couple? (For example: Vintage, streamlined, old world, romantic, funky, vibrant, or modern) Then narrow it down and choose what elements of your style and personality that you would like to use in your wedding. Once you decide your style, you will want to stay consistent with it and tell all your vendors, friends, and family what your wedding style is. This will really help make your special day a true reflection of the two of you!

2/14/11:
One way to add impact and appeal to your reception with small touches like wrapping your chairs in chiffon or scattering mismatched silver candlesticks around the room to create a little romance.

2/7/11:
One way to get used to being the center of attention and having a camera pointed at you all day is to take advantage of your complimentary engagement session! One of the great things about most wedding photography collections today is that most come with a complimentary engagement session. Be sure to take advantage of this! It's not only a great way to get to know your photographer, but it is good practice for your wedding day - it will help you feel much more natural in front of a camera.

1/31/11:
Marriage is a lifetime of compromise - your photography should not be one of them. Your photos are the only tangible item from your wedding day that will help you relive the happiness and joy felt on that special day. Therefore, you should book the best photographer you can afford! When the day is over your guests won't remember the food, your flowers will begin to wilt, but you should be confident that you have a full collection of heirloom photographs that will be passed down generations to come.

1/24/11:
Be sure to have a wedding emergency kit handy with bobby pins, a sewing kit, safety pins, clear nail polish, extra hose, bandages, aspirin, antacids, tissues, and anything else you think you might need. Even better, ask a bridesmaid to do this for you.

2/17/11:
Whether your marrying in or out-of-state, try incorporating a bit of regional charm into your day. Showing off your hometown pride is a perfect way to add a unique twist to your wedding day. Consider a musical homage, like playing 3 songs back to back, a special dessert with the recipe, or a photo booth with the state's most famous landmark as the backdrop.

1/10/11:
To save money on wedding favors consider giving your guests inexpensive favor bags or boxes filled with some flower seeds, your favorite tea/coffee, home-made cookies, home-made or bulk small candles in your one of your wedding colors, or candy. Then wrap them up, decorate them, and tie them ...with a ribbon to match the colors of your wedding and include a note of thanks.

1/3/11:
There are many people to choose from when it comes to selecting your wedding photographer, especially in this digital age. However, finding the right photographer is essential! There are over 2,000 photographers just in the state of Colorado and each of their styles is just as unique as they are! I recommend that you meet in person with as many photographers as you can, at least 5 (.0025% of them). Then carefully select the one whose photography resonates with you and whose personality fuses with you. Your wedding photography is one of the only tangible things that will help you relive those amazing moments forever.

11/15/10:
If you love the fondant look, but do not so much love the price or taste.... ask your baker if she can do a faux fondant look with buttercream. A skilled cake decorator can get icing as smooth as fondant and add on real fondant accents such as bows, ribbons, borders, etc. for a fantastic look ...for less money and better taste.

11/08
In the early stages of planning your wedding consider starting a wedding notebook or accordion file to organize all your wedding notes. Be sure to keep price quotes, receipts, brochures, and contracts in a safe place. Also, when speaking with wedding vendors do not be afraid to ask questions and don't forget to read the fine print!

11/01/10:
To save money on decorating your ceremony location book a venue that is already decorated - consider having your ceremony at The Broadmoor near Christmas - they have tons of beautiful lights up for about 3 months every year! Many churches are also ornately decorated for the holiday season with large displays of flowers.

10/25/10:
To save money and have a greener wedding try using flowers and food that is in season. Also consider borrowing or renting everything that you can, rather than buying new. (Think about borrowing some family jewelry or a friend's veil). Lastly, consider a venue with a ceremony space, reception space, and guest rooms all at the same facility or within walking distance of one another.

10/18/10:
One of the great things about an outdoor wedding is that you'll get to bring in every aspect of design and function yourself - which means you'll get to create exactly what you want from the ground up! Adding your own personal elements to your d?cor is not only fun, but also will make your wedding stand out!

10/11/10:
Destination weddings can be great for a number of reasons? It is easier to relax before the wedding when you are already at your honeymoon location, additionally a shorter guest list makes for a cheaper and more intimate celebration, plus you can start your honeymoon immediately after your wedding!

10/05/10:
To save money on your wedding site try booking off-season or at odd hours or on days that are not as popular. Choosing to wed on a Friday or Sunday and opting for something less formal, like a dessert reception can really cut back on your costs. Lastly, consider hosting your wedding and reception off the beaten path. Rural locations usually cost much less than those in a big city!

 9/20/10:
In the early stages of planning rank the aspects of your wedding that are most important to you (and your fiancee), then analyze the top 5 and write a realistic budget leaving enough cushion to support your top priorities. Then begin researching and booking your top priorities. Also, do not forget ...to let the people helping you know what your top priorities are, like your friends and family.
<text>
"We had met and interviewed with several photographers before hiring Sheena. She came very highly recommended by a friend who had hired her. After interviewing Sheena and seeing not only her photographs but also her final products, it was an easy decision after a long search. We couldn't have been happier with our decision; the photos are breath taking! I can honestly say she includes far more detail than most photographers do. It is evident that she is passionate about her work. The details and angles she caught were effortless and second nature for her. Additionally it was a joy to have a free engagement session included. Her flawless care from beginning to the end made the most wonderful memories for us; we are truly thankful."

<text>
My Wedding Philosophy:

There are many people to choose from when it comes to selecting your wedding photographer, especially in this digital age. I believe that finding the right photographer that captures your vision and fuses well with you is essential.

My goal is to unobtrusively capture the action, beauty, romance, emotion and entire spirit of your day through artistic documentation.

I believe that weddings are about relationships, and I will capture the emotion of them through my photography.

Every wedding is unique and I believe your photos should be, too.

I believe amazing photographs are made because the photographer understands the client and truly cares about their final product, not just making money.

I will spend many hours preparing for your wedding, from scouting beautiful locations within your venues to exploring the entire perimeter around your wedding and reception locations to come up with new and innovative portrait locations.

I will meet with you as many times as you feel necessary to work out every detail.

I will do my best to attend your wedding rehearsal. It gives me the chance to understand the flow of the ceremony and to become familiar with your family and wedding party, and their individual personalities.

I will search out the best angles that compliment you and your environment.

I will use my wedding experience to help anticipate when the best moments will occur.

I will come prepared with back up photography equipment, as well as safety pins, Kleenex, and Band-Aids.

I will make certain that you look fantastic every minute of the day.

I will give you my very best on your wedding day.

I am friendly, outgoing, and flexible; I function great under pressure.

I focus on capturing the "moment," and the details that make your wedding unique. I am an emotional story teller.

I do not mind arranging extended family portraits so grandma can have a copy of a family portrait with her whole family dressed up on the big day.

My background in photojournalism has prepared me for onetime events and moments that can only be captured once.

The majority of the photographs will occur naturally as the wedding day unfolds without much interference. However, I love to use my creative juices to produce beautiful, inventive portraits. I also include the traditional wedding party and family group photographs.

Wedding photographs are the ONLY thing that you will take with you as a permanent record of your beautiful day, therefore I take the utmost care to prepare for and producing final products for.

I have been photographing weddings since 2005 and I have loved every minute of it!

It is an honor and privilege to be a part of your special day and if you enjoy my portfolio, I hope you will contact me soon so I can hear all about you and your fianc??s story and then we can discuss how to let my artistic vision become your family keepsake.
